Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia has a variety of unique types in decorating on cloth, one of them is suji cair embroidery from West Sumatera. Suji cair embroidery is a typical embroidery of Koto Gadang West Sumatera, which has a unique color gradation that forms a shadow of 3 (three) dimensions. However, despite all that, suji cair embroidery has a problem, namely the long processing time to make one flower motif on a scarf which can take up to five days. Thus, a creative innovation is needed in order to be able to process the results of suji cair embroidery so that it can be better known by the wider community. The research was conducted in quantitative method, by observing suji cair embroidery artisans in Kotogadang and one of Henni Adli's designers in West Sumatera to find out the development of suji cair embroidery, interviewing suji cair embroidery artisans in Kotogadang West Sumatera, studying literature on various books and journals and exploring the technique of machine embroidery applied to women's fashion in the form of outer wear to fulfill lifestyle which using the innovation in the form of 3 (three) dimensional techniques. It aims to be able to introduce suji cair embroidery with the innovation of using more modern machine embroidery techniques.
